Apple TV gets a fresh update with tvOS 26.2, introducing a kids mode to the TV app while bringing a few other notable changes to the Apple TV and HomePod ecosystem.
The update, which Apple released for the Apple TV 4K and related HomePod devices, typically emphasizes bug fixes and stability improvements. This time, however, two features stand out in tvOS 26.2.
First, users can now create Apple TV profiles without needing to link a full Apple ID account. This is especially handy for households where some members aren’t part of the Apple ecosystem yet still need access to the TV.
Second, Apple strengthens its child-safety efforts by adding a dedicated kids mode within the TV app for child profiles. This mode can help parents tailor content and controls for younger viewers.
Additionally, tvOS 26.2 expands Liquid Glass support for the Apple TV 4K lineup. Beyond these changes, most of the remaining entries on the update list describe under-the-hood fixes intended to refine the overall user experience.
This minor update appears to extend and refine the features introduced with tvOS 26, which previously showcased a Liquid Glass redesign, enhancements to the Music app, and several audio-focused improvements.
On a broader note, tvOS continues to power both Apple’s set-top boxes and the growing family of HomePod devices. Industry speculation suggests Apple may rename the HomePod operating system to homeOS and possibly pursue a new home hub concept with its own dedicated OS. Whether this new operating system would follow an iPadOS/iOS pattern remains unclear, but it signals Apple’s continued intent to unify and expand its home ecosystem.
