Cromwell, a professional since 2010, stands as the last remaining original member of the nine riders who joined Canyon-SRAM when the team launched in 2016. As the senior rider on the 16-woman 2026 roster, she’ll serve as one of the team’s road captains while also tackling a demanding gravel calendar. And this is the part most people miss: her decision to continue racing was heavily influenced by the 2026 Gravel World Championships, set to take place in her home country of Western Australia. Competing on familiar terrain adds a layer of personal significance to her already impressive career.
Entering her 11th season with the team, Cromwell has become a cornerstone of Ronny Lauke’s squad. “The team has truly become my cycling family,” she shared in a press release. “It’s a place where I can be myself, feeling both supported and challenged through every high and low. While I’ve considered other teams over the years, I’ve always stayed because I’m genuinely happy here. My experience is valued, and I feel appreciated by my teammates.”
Gravel racing, a relatively new focus for Cromwell, has breathed fresh life into her career. Her off-road successes—including victories at the Unbound 100-mile race, RADL Gravel in her native South Australia, and The Gralloch in the UK—have not only renewed her motivation but also enhanced her contributions to the team. As the current Australian Gravel champion, she’s proven that versatility and adaptability can extend an athlete’s prime far beyond conventional expectations.
But here’s the bold question: Is gravel racing the future for veteran cyclists, or is it just a niche extension of their careers? Cromwell’s achievements suggest it could be a game-changer, offering older athletes a platform to thrive while bringing new dimensions to their road racing roles.
Today, Cromwell sees her primary role as a leader by example. “It’s not about results anymore,” she explains. “It’s about helping younger riders grow, sharing my knowledge, and sometimes being the calm voice between riders and staff.” Yet, she’s far from done with competitive goals. She’s determined to redeem herself at Sanremo Women after a crash this year and aims to be a strong contender for the TDFFAZ team in 2026, especially with the race finishing in Nice—a place she knows intimately.
Her biggest goal, however, is the UCI Gravel World Championships in Australia. “This is a true gravel course, one I’ve won on twice before,” she says. “I know the competition will be fierce, but it’s a dream to compete on home soil.”
