Bold headline: Jurickson Profar Faces Major Setback as PED Positive Test Reemerges
Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar has again tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug, according to ESPN. This development could trigger a full 162-game suspension, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal notes that the MLB Players Association is prepared to challenge the potential suspension.
This situation is ongoing. We’re pursuing a formal statement from the Braves for Channel 2 Action News, with coverage starting at 4:00 p.m. local time.
This marks the second instance of Profar testing positive for a banned substance since joining the Braves. In his prior case, MLB imposed an 80-game suspension last year, which Profar attributed to an unintentional ingestion of a substance containing a banned ingredient. He reiterated that he would “never knowingly do anything to cheat” and cited his profound love and respect for the game.
During spring training in Florida last month, Channel 2’s Alison Mastrangelo asked Profar whether he took any steps this offseason to prevent a repeat incident. He replied that he did take such steps. As of Tuesday afternoon, neither Profar nor the Braves had issued a formal comment.
