Gmail for Android gets a visual makeover with photo and attachment previews
Google is enhancing Gmail for Android notifications with a new feature that will make your inbox more visually appealing and informative. Gone are the days of just seeing the sender, subject line, and body; now, you'll get a sneak peek at the attachments right in your notifications.
But here's where it gets interesting. The new compact alert adds a paperclip emoji to the subject line, and a small preview of the attachment replaces the sender's image. When you expand the notification, you'll see a rectangular preview, similar to how messaging apps handle images. However, be cautious; this update might replace the email body, which could be a concern for work communications.
Emails with multiple photo attachments will be indicated with a bottom row, and other file types will be highlighted with a PDF icon and a partial file name. This feature is currently available for a single Gmail account across multiple signed-in devices, and it's part of Google's ongoing efforts to modernize Gmail.
