Bold claim: Kalani Sitake has chosen loyalty over pursuit of a bigger paycheck, choosing to stay with BYU instead of moving to Penn State.
BYU publicly confirmed, just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, that a contract extension with head football coach Kalani Sitake has been reached after several tense days during which he explored the possibility of taking the Penn State job.
Minutes later, around 5:30, BYU’s football operations chief Jack Damuni released a video on X in which Sitake tells his players he will remain with the Cougars.
“Listen, I know we talked about it yesterday and all that, but you don’t need any more distractions, OK?” Sitake says. “You know we’re working out the details with agents and everything, but I’m not going anywhere.”
As Sitake begins to speak again, the room erupts. His message is drowned out by the roaring cheers of the players, led by senior defensive end Logan Lutui, who rushes in and fans the excitement with a collective volley of cheers.
Damuni captioned the clip in all caps: “HE AIN’T GOING NO WHERE!!! GO COUGS!!!”
Context: BYU sits at No. 11 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday evening and is gearing up for a showdown against No. 4 Texas Tech in the Big 12 title game this Saturday.
